The traditional recycling container has remained largely unchanged for years. While its current design functions adequately, certain components - particularly fragile plastic areas - are prone to wear and cracking over time. Unfortunately, these damaged parts cannot be replaced individually, often resulting in the need to replace the whole container. The goal of the redesign was to enhance durability and introduce modular repairability, all while reimagining the container as a piece of urban furniture, an object that not only serves a purpose but also integrates aesthetically into the cityscape when placed on the pavement.

Key improvements include:

Reinforced Construction: The upper section of the container is now made from recycled stainless steel, strengthening the areas most subjected to mechanical stress during handling and lifting by garbage trucks.

Protected Hinges: Lid hinges have been repositioned inside the handle, shielding them from impact damage while keeping them accessible for straightforward replacement.

Sustainable Materials: Both the container body and lid are made from 100% post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene (PCR PEHD), promoting circular material use and sustainability.

This new design not only extends the product’s lifespan and ease of maintenance but also elevates its visual and environmental presence on the street.
